2-D shapes - Missing lengths
Use your geometry facts to complete the activity. Drag the labels to the correct slots and when you are finished, use the ‘Mark’ button to see if you are right.
Discussion points
- What lengths do you already know?
- How can you find the missing length/s?
- How can the shape name help us when finding missing lengths?
Teaching tips:
This activity is designed to get children looking specifically at the side lengths of 2-D shapes in readiness for calculating perimeter (Calculating perimeters - Level 2, Calculating perimeters of rectilinear shapes), area (Calculating areas - Level 2, and ‘Rectilinear shapes - Missing lengths’.
Children could use squared paper to draw their own 2-D shapes then measure and label each side using a ruler. Children could be asked to draw a square or rectangle with given lengths to check their understanding of measuring and drawing accurately.
