Drag the labels to the right slots. When you are ready, use the 'Mark' button. Use the guidance to help you.
Discussion points
- What is the purpose of blood in our bodies?
- What job do the valves within the heart and blood vessel openings do?
- Why is the cardiac muscle larger on the left side of the heart?
- What exchange occurs in the lungs?
- How does exercise effect our heart rate? Why does this happen?
Teaching tips:
This activity challenges children to identify and locate key structures of the heart while prompting discussion about their functions and contributions to the circulatory system.
Explain that the diagram shows a cross-section view of the heart, and make sure the children understand that the blood vessels would extend outwards around the body.
The Guidance and Vocabulary found within the activity can be used to review learning and address misconceptions before completing the activity or to prompt children throughout.
Also, complete Circulatory system and Circulation vocabulary to complement learning on this topic area.
Opportunity to work scientifically: investigate the effects of different types of exercise on heart rate. Children can present their findings using Busy graph maker.
