Feed the monkey
Use the red buttons to put the correct number of doughnuts and/or beans in front of the monkey. Click on the monkey to see if you are correct.
Teaching tips:
Go to 'Activity settings' to configure the game for different abilities and have the questions asked in picture form.
Encourage children to count the numbers out loud as they go so they understand the last number reached gives the total.
Model using the stem sentences:
For one food item: ‘One, two, three; there are three (burgers) in total’.
For two food items: ‘One, two; there are two burgers in total. One, two; there are two mangoes in total. One, two, three, four; there are four pieces of food altogether’.
Use with the ‘Draw Monkey's food’ worksheet.

Point out how each row is made up of 10 circles. To develop working efficiently encourage children to understand that, for example, to give Monkey 15 pieces of food, if we partition the number into tens and ones, we can then fill one complete row of 10 and then add 5 more. Rather than counting out each one individually.
