Hungry chicks
Help the chicken feed the hungry chicks. Collect the worms and hop between the clouds to reach the nest. Be as fast as you can by collecting the correct number of worms before you go.
Simply touch a worm to pick it up and touch a cloud to fly to it. On a desktop computer, the arrow keys will also move the chicken and pressing the space bar will pick up a nearby worm.
Teaching tips:
Use the activity in ‘easy’ or ‘easy and medium’ levels to support work on linking numerals and amounts. Pair with ‘Hungry chicks: Counting worms’.
Alternatively, use with ‘Balloon tree’ for more activities on number recognition.
Model getting too few or too many worms and see if children can identify and explain how to correct the mistake.

Use in medium and hard levels to get children adding two and three single-digit numbers together. Offer a number line or concrete objects, like counters or cubes, to support counting if needed.
This activity also supports solving problems using pictorial representations including numbers and quantities. Further problem-solving activities linked to numerals and objects include ‘Number jump’ and ’Rocker shocker’.
